How on earth do you measure a year? By writing a poetry collection with 366 poems apparently! 2024 was a rollercoaster for everyone. Some truly wonderful things happened and the world faced some truly awful disasters. It’s been fascinating exploring myself and the world and the practice of poetry and I’m delighted that 30: A Year of Poems will officially launch on my 31st birthday, 7 January 2025.
2024 also saw a real dream of mine come true as I got to perform my dream role in my favourite show, Princeton in Avenue Q, and had an absolute blast with the folks at Your Chance Productions. I couldn’t have asked for a better company and the comments we got from the audience and the reviews were wonderful including claims it was one of the best Avenue Q’s they’d ever seen. I’ve made some friends for life there and I hope I get to perform with them again soon!
My wonderful boyfriend and I have now been together for a year and a half and are in the process of buying our first home together after a year of renting. I feel so lucky to have found him and I’m so excited for our future together.
My second novel, A Place Where We Belong is sadly still stuck in its same place, but I have a bit more positivity that 2025 will be its year. I’ve proven to myself that I can keep up the energy of writing at least a bit every day, I’m taking a little break from performing, and bar the eventual house move, I’m hoping 2025 will be settled enough to allow me to focus and finally complete this now 6 year old project.
So, what’s the plan for 2025?
Obviously, there’s one main goal: Finish and publish A Place Where We Belong.
But I do have an extra goal that I want to attempt: Create audiobook copies of my current books.
One of my main passions at work is accessibility. It’s only right that people shouldn’t be prevented from enjoying things because of a disability or access need. While people could use screen readers to read the eBooks, I know how popular and used audiobooks can be, so why not branch out and give people more options for engaging with my poems and novels? At this stage, I’m only at the start of that journey, but I hope you look forward to them later in the year!
And with that, I wish you all a very happy new year and hope it brings you all joy and happiness.
